Frequently asked questions

How do I open a VSDX file without Visio?

Drop the .vsdx file on this page. It is parsed and rendered entirely in your browser — no Microsoft Visio, no account, and the file is never uploaded to a server.

What is a VSDX file?

VSDX is the XML-based file format used by Microsoft Visio since 2013. It stores diagram pages, shapes, connectors, and text in a ZIP-packaged XML structure — which is why it can be read outside of Visio.

Can I edit the diagram, not just view it?

Yes. The viewer is a full diagram editor — move shapes, change text, then export from the Diagram menu as an image, PDF, or draw.io file.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The viewer runs completely client-side: the VSDX is unpacked and rendered by JavaScript in your browser tab. Close the tab and it is gone.

Can I convert an image or PDF into a VSDX file?

That is exactly what LayerBack does — upload a diagram image (or PDF page) and get back a fully editable VSDX with native shapes and connectors.
